THE THREE TERROIRS: our wealth, diversity

The combination of the nature of the soil and the surrounding climatic conditions determines what is called the “terroir effect”. The latter gives these three vineyards their own typicities.

Félines

A few meters above sea level, on the banks of the Thau Bassin.

The soil is clay-limestone, composed of molasses with limestone splinters.

Félines (“tile factory” in Occitan) has in its history housed a tile factory, testimony to the clayey nature of the land.

In Félines, we benefit from the maritime influence: little rain because the sea pushes summer storms inland. In return, the morning mists bring a little humidity to the vines.

Les années de sécheresse sont à l’origine de nos plus beaux millésimes.

Surrounded by the Thau basin on one side, the protected site of “Domaine de Bellevue” and an ornithological reserve on the other, we pay particular attention to nature and the environment.

The cadastres

Bordered by the Domitia Roman road, it is a large plateau in the heart of the Picpoul de Pinet appellation.

The landscape is wide open to the sea.

The soil alternates between banks of white marl and clay-limestone soils.

The average altitude is 45 meters.

The Coulette

This vineyard, the furthest from the Thau basin, is located on the eastern slope of a hill, with red, sandy-gravelly soils on dislocated conglomerate sandstone.

The AOP Picpoul are planted on the edge of the pine forests. They are thus protected from the prevailing winds.
The red AOPs are located on “la boule”, the highest point of La Coulette, they are swept by the winds. The scrubland there resembles a shaved head. The soils are red and very stony.

The climate is typically Mediterranean: heavy rains in the fall, fairly low temperatures in winter and a very hot and dry summer.

The highest altitude is 80 meters.
